Plasma TV Wall Mount Installation Guide
|
|
Improper installation can result in serious personal injury or damage to your plasma TV. Before installing the wall mount, consult with a qualified installer to make sure that your wall is capable of supporting the wall mount and the plasma TV.
|
Package contents
This package includes the following hardware and tools, and these printed instructions.
Hardware for assembling the wall mount
Tools provided for assembling the wall mount
Tools you need to provide
If you are installing the wall mount on a wall with studs, you need an electric drill with wood bits, a level, a stud finder, and a socket set.
If you are installing the wall mount on a solid concrete, concrete block, or brick wall, you need an electric drill with masonry bits, a level, a concrete anchor tool, a hammer, and a socket set.
Wall Installation Overview
After you have decided where to mount your plasma TV, you may want to consider concealing the audio and video cables and power cord through the wall.
Local building codes often require specially-rated cabling for in-wall use--consult an electrician.
You can mount your plasma TV over the hidden cables for a custom, finished look.
Assembling the wall mount
To assemble the wall mount:
-
Attach a horizontal support to a wall angle module (as shown) using two bolts, four lock washers, and two nuts. One lock washer should go next to each bolt head and each nut.
-
Tighten the nut using the Allen wrench and open-end wrench that have been provided. The Allen wrench fits into the hole in the head of the bolt.
-
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 on the remaining corners. Make sure that both wall angle modules are oriented the same, with the slot in the mounting hole to the bottom. The wall mount should look like the following picture when you are finished.
|
|
Make sure that all connections are tight. Failure to do this can result in serious personal injury.
|
Attaching the wall mount to the wall
|
|
Use common sense when selecting the location for your wall mount. Do not mount your plasma TV over a crib or child's play area. Serious personal injury or death may occur should the wall mount become detached from the wall.
|
|
|
This procedure should be completed by a qualified installer.
|
Attaching the wall mount to a wall with wood studs
Hardware provided for attaching the wall mount
To attach the wall mount to a wall with wood studs:
-
Use a
stud finder to locate the studs in the area where you want to install
the wall mount.
-
Place the frame against the wall at the height you want to install the wall mount and center the appropriate wall-mount holes on the studs.
|
|
Most newer homes have studs that are 16-inches on-center (16-inches from the center of one stud to the center of the next). The wall mount has holes to accommodate stud spacing 16-inches on-center, as well as, other sizes that may accommodate your specific mounting needs.
|
-
Using
a level, level the wall mount.
-
Mark the eight holes you will be using for the lag bolts. The following picture shows the eight holes you would use if your studs are 16-inches on-center.
-
Start pilot holes using an electric drill with a bit smaller in diameter than the lag bolt.
|
|
All eight bolts must be firmly embedded into the center of the studs.
|
-
With the wall mount in position and with the flat side against the wall, attach the mount to the wall using eight washers, eight lag bolts, and a socket set.
Attaching the wall mount to a concrete, concrete block, or brick wall
If you are installing the wall mount on a wall with studs, use the procedure "Attaching the wall mount to a wall with wood studs".
If you are installing the wall mount on a solid concrete, concrete block, or brick wall, you need an electric drill with masonry bits, a level, a concrete anchor tool, a hammer, and a socket set.
Hardware provided for attaching the wall mount
To attach the wall mount to a concrete, concrete block, or brick wall:
-
Place
the frame against the wall at the height you want to install the
wall mount.
-
Using
a level, level the wall mount.
-
Mark the eight holes you will be using for the concrete anchors. See Step 4 on page for an example of eight holes you could select.
|
|
Avoid using holes that are closer than 2" from a mortar joint. If the holes are close to a joint, the anchors may come loose.
|
-
Drill holes for the concrete anchors using an electric drill with a masonry bit the same diameter as the barrel of the concrete anchor.
|
|
When installing anchors into concrete block, use an electric drill with a masonry bit instead of a hammer drill. This will prevent the back of the hole from breaking out and weakening the block.
|
-
Insert
the anchors in the holes and set them with the concrete anchor tool
and hammer.
-
With the wall mount in position and with the flat side against the wall, attach the mount to the wall using the concrete anchor nuts and a socket set.
Attaching the plasma TV to the wall mount
|
|
We recommend that two or more people lift the plasma TV when attaching it to the wall mount. The plasma TV is very heavy and may be damaged if not attached correctly.
|
Adjusting the angle of the plasma TV wall mount
To adjust the angle of the plasma TV wall mount:
|
Adjust the wall mounting angle for optimum viewing using the inclination holes and bolts provided. The wall mount has been shipped to you with the bolts already in the inclination holes.
|
|
|
Make sure to use the matching inclination holes on both sides.
Make sure that the bolts in the inclination holes are tight even if you do not change the wall mounting angle.
|
Removing the pedestal table-top stand
To remove the pedestal table-top stand:
-
Unplug
all cables and cords from the plasma TV.
-
Lay the
TV face down on a soft, flat surface. Make sure that the surface
is not abrasive so you do not scratch your screen. You may want
to hang the pedestal table-top stand's feet over the edge of a table.
-
Remove the four screws attaching the pedestal table-top stand to the plasma TV.
-
Slide each leg downward, then lift it off the back.
Attaching the plasma TV to the wall mount
To attach the plasma TV to the wall mount:
-
With at least one person on each side of the plasma TV, lift the plasma TV and place it against the wall mount with the four pegs located on the back of the TV inside the mounting holes on the wall angle modules.
|
|
Do not put your fingers between the TV and the wall mount. Your fingers may be pinched.
|
-
Let the
plasma TV slide downward until each peg is firmly seated in it's
slot.
-
Reattach all cables and cords to the plasma TV.
|
|
You may find it easier to attach the cables and cords if two people hold the plasma TV near the wall mount while a third person attaches the cables and cords. After the cables and cords are attached, the two holders can attach the plasma TV to the wall mount.
