What is Gateway System Recovery?

Gateway System Recovery (GSR) is a backup solution for Gateway computers that were shipped after November 1, 2004. At the heart of this solution is a 2nd partition on the hard drive where files necessary to reinstall the software that came with the computer are saved. In addition to this recovery partition, users can create a set of discs that act as a secondary backup incase the recovery partition becomes damaged or corrupt.

There have been several revisions of the solution and each revision has slightly different implementations. Refer to the "How to Install Drivers and Software" documentation for specific information on the solution that shipped with your computer. To access this documentation, select your computer type below then select your model. When you've located your model, click on the "How to Install Drivers and Software" link, and then follow the instructions for Gateway System Recovery.

Q: What if my Gateway System Recovery CD/DVD is lost, missing or damaged?

A:

  • For computers shipped after November 1, 2004 and until January 2005, a patch needs to be installed. Download the patch through our FTP site at ftp://esupport:vImvF88@ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_support/drivers/apps/medialess/Create_DRV_APPS_CD_Update.exe.

After the installation of this patch, the option to create the drivers and applications CD is available from the Start menu under Programs. However the operating system (OS) CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service.

Note: Replacement of the operating system CD may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

  • For computers shipped between January 2005 and June 2005, the option to Create my Drivers-Applications CD(s) is already available under Programs. The operating system CD\DVD must be requested by e-mailing customer service, and may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

  • For computers shipped after June 2005, an operating system CD\DVD is included and the option to Create my Drivers-Applications CD(s) is in System Recovery. Access the program from the Start menu under Programs. This backup process through System Recovery allows you to create the applications and drivers CD\DVD as many times as needed. If the operating system CD\DVD is lost, missing, or damaged, e-mail customer service to inquire about a replacement. Please note that replacement may be at a cost according to your warranty status.

If all CD\DVD's are needed, e-mail customer service to inquire about a replacement. Please note that replacement may be at a cost according to your warranty status.
