Gateway Extended Warranty Dialog Box Appears on New Computer

ISSUE: After using a new computer for a few days, a Gateway Extended Warranty dialog box may appear. The dialog box text may be titled "Important Warranty Information" or "Protect Your Investment" depending on when the computer was purchased. In both cases, information about contacting Gateway to upgrade the computer warranty is provided.

RESOLUTION: To disable the Gateway Extended Warranty dialog box from appearing, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Use Applet_uninstall_User.EXE. This utility prompts for the removal of the Gateway Extended Warranty reminder and verifies completion.

  1. Download GWCaresremoval.exe from the Gateway Web site.

  2. Double-click the GWCaresremoval.exe file that was downloaded. Files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\GWCaresremoval folder on the hard drive.

  3. From the Start menu, click Run.

  4. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\GWCaresremoval\Applet_uninstall_User.EXE. Click OK.

  5. In the Self-Installing File dialog box, click Yes.

  6. In the Self-Installing File dialog box, click OK.

  7. The Gateway Extended Warranty reminder is removed.

Method 2: Use Applet_uninstall.EXE. This utility silently removes the Gateway Extended Warranty reminder and does not prompt you upon completion.

  1. Download GWCaresremoval.exe from the Gateway Web site.

  2. Double-click the GWCaresremoval.exe file that was downloaded. Files self-extract and copy into the C:\Cabs\GWCaresremoval folder on the hard drive.

  3. From the Start menu, click Run.

  4. In the Run dialog box, type: C:\Cabs\GWCaresremoval\Applet_uninstall.EXE. Click OK.

  5. The Gateway Extended Warranty reminder is removed.
