Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Removal Through Command Prompt

This option should only be used if Service Pack 1 cannot be removed from Programs and Features or through System Restore.

  1. Open Command Prompt with Administrator rights.

    1. From the Windows Vista™ default Start menu, in the Start Search box, type: cmd and then press the ENTER key.

    2. At the top of the Start menu, under Programs, right-click cmd, and then select Run as administrator.

  2. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.

  3. In the command prompt window, type: Start /w pkgmgr.exe /up:VistaSP1-KB936330~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.0.18000 and then press ENTER.

  4. In the Windows Package Manager dialog box, click Yes.

    Note: If not prompted to restart, retrieve the error code encountered by the pkgmgr.exe command. From the command prompt window, type: echo %errorlevel%

    If the result is error code 87, Package Manager has received incorrect parameters and the entry was likely typed incorrectly.

  5. The Uninstalling Service Pack: Stage 1 of 3 screen appears.

  6. The Uninstalling Service Pack: Stage 2 of 3 screen appears.

  7. The computer restarts.

  8. The Uninstalling Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 screen appears.

  9. The computer restarts.

  10. Removal is complete.
