Checkdisk

Checkdisk can be used to check for file system errors and bad sectors on the hard drive.

Perform these steps to use Checkdisk.

  1. From the Windows Vista™ default Start menu, click Computer.

  2. In the Computer window, click to select the local disk. From the Organize menu, click Properties.

  3. In the Local Disk Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab. On the Tools tab, in the Error-checking box, click Check Now.

  4. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.

  5. In the Checkdisk Local Disk dialog box, select the Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check boxes, and then click Start.

  6. In the Microsoft Windows dialog box, to schedule disk check on the next restart, click Schedule disk check.

  7. Restart the computer.

  8. The next time the computer is turned on, the disk check executes before entering Windows.
