| The Platform for Internet Content Selection (PICS) is a standard from the World Wide Web Consortium that provides a framework for rating content on the Internet. Using PICS standards, Web content providers can add labels to Web pages that identify the type of content in those pages. You can read about the PICS standard at http://www.w3.org/PICS. |

| Because PICS is just a framework for rating Web content, it is up to other organizations to create rating services and filtering software that use PICS. You can go to the America Links Up site (http://www.netparents.org) to find information on rating and filtering software. From their home page, click on Tools and Tips for Parents, then click on Browsers and Filters. |

| You can add filtering software to the popular Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer browsers. For example, you could add a rating file from SafeSurf (http://www.safesurf.com/iesetup) to Internet Explorer that would allow you to prevent access to Web content that contains sex, violence, nudity, or other undesirable content. |

| Instead of adding rating or blocking software to your browser, you could use a browser that was specially designed to screen inappropriate Web content. One example of a browser that was created to provide safe browsing for children is ChiBrow (http://www.chibrow.com). |
