  Step 1:  Music Lovers

MP3 users are, for the most part, people who just love music. Every day, more and more people become MP3 users.
  Step 2:  Bands

Bands, especially indie bands, use MP3 as a method of distributing their music; otherwise, it might not be heard elsewhere. Using MP3, the only cost to the band is whatever costs are involved in the actual production of the songs.
  Step 3:  DJ's

It's a lot easier to carry a laptop around than all of the equipment you usually see a DJ using. Portability is a big incentive for this group of MP3 users.
  Step 4:  Record Labels

Record labels have reluctantly jumped on the MP3 wagon, though not wholeheartedly. The biggest incentive for record labels to use MP3 is to get samples of their artists' work out there to the masses. You can think of it as a "try it before you buy it" scheme.
  Step 5:  Print Media

Books on tape are great for avid readers who drive long distances. And so is MP3. You can listen to anything from the latest bestseller to the New York Times on MP3.
